Why didn't anyone tell me that pregnancy can cause carpal tunnel syndrome.....

I have been having issues with my forearms and my hands going painfully numb at night and the last couple of nights have been so bad it is causing me to loose sleep. I did some research online and then talked to a nurse at my doctor's office and sure enough I have carpal tunnel syndrome. Just when I think I get past one issue (be it nausia, insomnia, or getting GD under control) something else like this pops up. They tell me that it will likely go away within a month of having my baby but I am not even due for another 3 months. Good grief.

Why Didn't Anybody Tell Me: Bumps and Bruises

You brace yourself when your tot takes a tumble, but you never acknowledge the bumps and bruises that are inevitable as a parent. There are the ones you notice - when your wee one flips back her head as you look down and the bridge of your nose stings so badly your eyes fill - and, then there are the ones you are oblivious to like the toe marks on your stomach made by aspiring acrobats jumping across your midsection in such glee that you don't feel the painful indentations.

I rarely remember the gashes I get lunging across a playground structure to grab my son before he jumps off the side; Or, count the times I've whacked my forehead wrangling my kids into their carseats and hoisting the stroller into the tailgate. It's when I glance in a dressing room mirror and catch the colorful spots, scrapes and scratches that periodically appear on my body that I try to recall what it was like when I was childless and a box of band-aids lasted me several years. It's almost impossible. I'd much rather have the crushing hugs and tickle attacks that come with the noticeable imperfections.
Heartburn and Saltines?

Okay I now have it 24/7 and I HATE TUMS.
I've found its worse at night when trying to sleep. By accident, a couple evenings ago, I munched on Saltines before bed. That night I didn't have heartburn. Coincidence? Maybe but I've been having a couple at night and still feeling the success. Just thought I would pass this along.
Another other remedies?

Calf Pain

Omigod. I wish I'd known that flexing and/or pointing my toes would lead to excruciating calf pains. Last night I flexed my toes and cried out in pain scaring my husband. I called my sister and she experienced the same thing. Has anyone else?

Baby Names - to share or not to share

Why didn't anyone tell me EVERYONE would have an opinion!

Yesterday, I had my 20 weeks ultrasound. It's the one where we can choose to know the sex of the baby. We opted to surprise ourselves. Interestingly, the technician told us we were in the minority. Only 5% of the women he sees waits to find out. (Okay this is a little digression). Anyway, another surprise we decided (from now on) was to keep was the choice of baby names. I've asked family and friends to keep all suggestions and opinions, no matter how thoughtful they *think* they are to themselves. I've already encountered;
"You don't want to name your baby ...."
"I knew someone like that and I hated him/her"
and before I decided to say something even my own Mom told me "I don't know about that name" !
and my mother-in-law suggested I use the name of her father as a middle name as he as a great man. I love her and she is a good mother-in-law but if I am to use the name of a great man for a middle name - it would be my own Dad's name!

Anyway, anyone else have these issues?

Memory Loss

I 've developed long-term short-term memory loss.

I lose my thoughts seconds in and never seem to get them back. It's very frustrating!

Why won't she stop crying???

Yaya as a baby

As a new mommy, I gobbled up all the pregnancy magazines and books I could get my hands on. I eagerly listened to advice from everybody and took the classes offered at my local hospital.

Yaya was a very sweet baby from the start, mild-tempered and simply a joy. So I couldn’t figure out why one night early on we could not get her to stop crying. Every time we would lay her in her bassinet to sleep, she would wake up crying after only a few minutes. Was she hungry? No, I’d just fed her and she wouldn’t take anymore. Did she need a diaper change? Nope but we changed it anyway. Was she cold? We’d swaddle her up in her blankie. Was she hot? We took the blanket off. We just couldn’t figure it out, and she was never colicky. Finally, my husband slept in a chair and just held her the whole night.

She had gas!! Why didn’t anybody tell me you have to burp the baby every time she eats?! Of course now I look back and say DUH! But even with all the reading and classes, it was never mentioned.
